Dmitry Malakhov is a blacksmith and knife designer, who takes every step in the production process on his own, and who designs only unique knives of an unrivaled practicability and beauty. Dmitriy Pavlov is a goldsmith and designer, who has perfected his own unique approach of hand piercing and engraving in the last 30 years. Originally from St. Petersburg, Russia, Dmitriy Pavlov currently lives and works in De Forest, Wisconsin. His successful exhibitions in Finland and Russia, including the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, have earned him international recognition and many awards. |
Professional Journey. Dmitriy's professional journey began in 1981 at the Russkiye Samotsvety (Russian Gems) Corporation, where he advanced from engraver to lead engraving artist and designer. In 1999, Dmitriy and his wife, Galina, immigrated to the United States, and, in 2002, he started the DP Studio. In addition to creating his individual art, Dmitriy Pavlov also teaches as an Associate Master at The Howard Academy for the Metal Arts in Stoughton, WI.

Born in Moscow, Russia, Dmitry Malakhov carries on the family trade. His grandfather and great grandfather were blacksmiths. Like many boys, Dmitry was fascinated by weapons, swords and armor, and he made his first knife at twelve years of age. Today, Dmitry Malakhov uses his master skills to craft sophisticated and beautiful knives. He currently lives and works in Austin, Minnesota. |
Professional Journey. Dmitry Malakhov forged his first knife, when he was sixteen years old. He began his career by making simple hand-forged utility knives for hiking and fishing. In time, Dmitry learned to carve wood and draw sketches for art knives. Dmitry crafted his first art knives by the time he was twenty years old. His skills and designs have progressed and expanded, and he now forges complex and beautiful knives of many different styles. His portfolio includes folders, daggers, fixed blade hunting knives, and historical replicas. Over the past three years, Dmitry has rediscovered the ancient art of the Wootz Steel and has developed a passion for this time-honored process.
